This trick is a classic of card magic. It was created by Al Leech in 1950, and popularized by Frank Garcia under the name "Chicago Opener". The magician causes a freely-selected card to change its back color (say from red to blue), which is then tabled. The performer then claims to be able to repeat the effect and a second card is selected. This second attempt fails - no second blue card is found - but the performer makes good by turning over the first blue card and showing that it has now magically changed into the second selection. The magician displays a purse, opens it and takes out... another purse... which contains yet another purse! From this last purse, he takes out four Chinese coins, which he places in a row on the table. One of these coins is replaced in one of the purses (the other two have been put away); when he counts the coins on the table again, he has four of them! The process is repeated several times! The last time, he puts not one, but three coins in the purse... and despite this, he still has four and hands them out for examination!

The magician shows two small packet of four cards; on one side there are four red cards, and on the other side four black cards. He then swaps a single card from each pack into the other: and mysteriously, as oil and water can't mix, all the black cards are together again, along with the red cards! The cards are shuffled by the spectators. From the shuffled cards, the magician divides the deck into four piles... and when the first card of each pile is turned over, it's an Ace... and the result is a four of a kind in Aces! To buy an ordinary deck of cards click here.  

A very cute routine to entertain your friends, while fooling them! The spectator chooses a card, and puts it back into the deck. The magician explains that he's going to turn the cards over one by one, and the spectator will have to remain "Poker Face" when he sees his card... but he'll betray himself by having an imperceptible sign on his face; this is indeed how the magician finds the card. He then explains that the spectator can do the same trick himself, even if he has no notion of morphopsychology. The roles are then reversed: the magician becomes a spectator, and vice versa. And indeed, the spectator "guesses" the chosen card, but in a completely unexpected and funny way! This trick allows you to have a special interactive moment with your audience. The magician displays eight cards, each with six words, for a total of 48 different words. While the magician's back is turned, the spectator freely chooses a card, and a word on the card. The words are written in either black or red. The spectator says the colors of the six words written on the card, but must lie about the color of the word he has chosen. Without further information, the magician guesses the word thought up by the spectator! The effect can be repeated immediately. Several spectators can each choose a card (up to eight spectators... since there are eight cards) and you can guess the words chosen one after the other! The basement houses the showroom. On the first floor is the bar, where customers can sit at the counter or coffee tables, and watch screens on which magical effects specially recorded for the occasion are played in a loop. This video loop, which was broadcast in early 1990, is split into six parts.  

Nine coins are displayed on the table in three rows of three. The coins are stacked, and one by one recounted by twirling each one in the air. There are only... not eight, but only seven coins left!  

The magician mysteriously sends a small amount of cigarette ash into the palm of a spectator's hand, closed into a fist!

I love this trick, and all its wiliness. It's a dream you had the day before, about a young spectator who is chosen at random from the audience. For 5 minutes, he's going to become the world's greatest young magician, with all kinds of powers! In the end, he'll end up choosing a card in his head... which will be the one written all along on a large slate, covered by a veil, but in full view, all the time! There's as much comedy as a truly magical moment at the end. No electronics! A true « Bloomerie »...  

A classic piece of card magic. The four Aces are set aside. One card is freely chosen, and lost in the deck.
