David Roth

David Roth (1952–2021) was an American magician.

Born in New York City, he grew up in Greenwich Village. His parents offered him J.B. Bobo's book « New Modern Coin Magic » when he was 16, and it completely changed his life.

As a teenager, he worked as a magic demonstrator in Las Vegas, where he met Siegfried and Roy, Johnny Thompson, Norm Nielsen, and Jimmy Grippo.

At the age of 20, while living in Los Angeles, he stayed with Charlie Miller, shared a room with Mike Skinner, and participated in marathon sessions with Steve Freeman, Jeff Altman, Earl Nelson, T.A. Waters, and Ray Grismer.

At 21, he performed at the Magic Castle, after which Dai Vernon declared that he had known all the great coin magicians of the past, and that David Roth was better than any of them; while for some, this would have been the pinnacle of a career, for him it was only the beginning.

David Roth is considered today to be the most influential coin magician of both the 20th and 21st centuries. He changed coin magic forever with his innovative and perfect technique and attention to detail.
