Derek Dingle

Derek Dingle

Derek Dingle (1937-2004) was an American magician who revolutionized twentieth-century close-up magic.

A born magician with a magnificent aura of simplicity, he had an innate ease when he performed. The combination of his almost supernatural calm and the fluidity of his presentation created an aura around everything he did. There was never the slightest trace of anything exaggerated, overdone or artificially dramatic. On the contrary, he wrapped his magical effects in velvet and presented them like sparkling jewels, letting them shine with all their glory.

He became interested in magic after receiving a box of magic at the age of 8.

He first gained experience working in a magic store in Hong Kong.

An outstanding technician (coins, cards...), Dai Vernon and Time Magazine called him "the greatest card manipulator in the world". Among other techniques, his pass was legendary!

He published many landmark books and videos.

He made numerous TV appearances with Tom Snyder, Dick Cavett, Barbara Walters, and Mike Douglas, and many contributions to Genii, Apocalypse, The Pallbearers Review, Epilogue...

At the height of his career, he was one of the gods of close-up, a prince of effects, a manipulator capable of blowing minds around the world.
