Pavel

Pavel (Pavel Lubomir Pomezny) was born on 4 April 1945 in Prague (Czechoslovakia). He died on 8 February 2011 in Geneva (Switzerland).

World-renowned for his extraordinary creativity, it is incredible to think that he invented most of his iconic magic tricks when he was just a teenager. He had seen a magician and, having understood nothing and having no access to any information in his country, which was then cut off from the world during the Cold War, he set about inventing his first tricks himself.

At the age of 17, he became "Magician of the Year" at a Czech magic convention. Then he moved to Geneva in Switzerland, and his life changed...

Among other things, he invented the colour changing record trick, which he performed on the famous "Ed Sullivan Show" in 1968 in the USA.

In 1982, he won 1st prize for Invention at the 1982 FISM World Congress in Lausanne (Switzerland) for his famous "Super Walking Knot" rope trick.

Renowned for his simple yet inventive magic, which is both astonishing to watch and easy to perform, he created effects in all areas of magic (ropes, cards, scarves, balloons, ribbons, clothes pegs, coloured rings, banknotes, etc.) He authored several books and DVDs, gave numerous lectures all over the world and sold his inventions in his "Pavel-Magic" magic shop. Press studs and magnets made him a small fortune, with ideas as far-fetched as they were ingenious...

"The Academy of Magical Arts awarded him the Creative Fellowship Award for his tireless contributions to the art of magic.

He was one of the pillars of the “Fruits d'Or de Montaneuf”, the famous magic brotherhood created by Claude Rix, which included some of the greatest names of the time: Fred Kaps, Ali Bongo, Tommy Wonder, Richard Ross, Guy Lammertyn, Léon Chapelier and Franck Garcia and Jean Ludow. And in more recent years the list has included: Gaëtan Bloom, Alexandra and Dominique Duvivier, Francis Tabary, Devil, Pavel, Horace, the Blackfingers, Piet Forton, Quoc Tien Tran, Marc Paul, Antony Owen, Christopher, Jean Régil, Jean de Merry, Norbert Ferré, Bertran Lotth, Boris Wild... to name but a few!
