Philippe Socrate

Philippe Socrate

Philippe Socrate – his real name – is a renowned French magician, known for his stage and close-up magic performances.

He holds a Doctorate in Medicine and has been honoured with prestigious awards in the world of magic.

His magic is highly eclectic: stage, close-up, card tricks and parlour magic, with a particular fondness for the invisible thread.

Winner of the FISM World Championship in 1982 and the Baguette d’Or in Monte Carlo, he enjoys international recognition.

His magic is characterised by great diversity, including optical illusions.

From the age of 6 or 7, he used to collect the Malabar wrappers, which contained fun physics experiments.

At the age of 10, one of his schoolmates, who performed exceptional card tricks, introduced him to the ‘Payot’ books… and he hasn’t stopped since.

Two magicians really impressed him: Norm Nielsen and Albert Goshman.

His greatest artistic influences were Richard Ross and Fred Kaps.

It is not so much a particular style of magic that appeals to him, but the magicians themselves and the worlds they create.

He shared a 30-year friendship with Paul Dassonville.

It was between the ages of 19 and 25 that he developed his rose routine.

He quickly became an internationally recognised professional magician; he has performed all over the world for major corporations, kings and presidents.

His world is a unique blend of science and magic. He is particularly known for his ability to make illusions accessible to the general public.

He is also the author of several books.
